Execution, 2015

Scindapsus aureus, is a specific plant originated from Southeast Asia, and wildly grows in China. The nature of the plant is strong, and it can easily survive in either water or earth. The wooden structure is built based on the reference of the “gallows”, which is used for execution of hanging. I “execute” the plant by “hanging” it, which is to lift it out of the water surface, but the roots keep growing deeper down into the water, because of its nature of surviving in difficult conditions. This piece focuses on expressing how life reacts and fight against repression.
